Most exchange students come here not because they actually want to see Singapore. They see it as a developed-enough country from which they can get to Cambodia, Bangkok, Bali, etc.

It's plain ignorant to run the air con at 18 degrees in our climate. I remember a Danish girl who hated the sauna-chill-sauna-chill environment and the lack of fun here and was only too happy to leave SG every other weekend.

Everyone makes a "to do" list when they go travelling... even I made a "don't do" list. At least they mingled with other exchange students, if not the locals. Most (but not all) of my housemates did the Asian student thing - sticking with their own clique. And that is sad - the travel aspect of the exchange is there but the cultural aspect is lost.

I've been going out in the day and have even gone for runs. Just a walk around the neighbourhood leaves me drenched. It's just as well that our flat is only fan-cooled.
